Scottish Engineering Skills Academy

The Scottish Engineering Skills Academy exists to develop the people behind Scotland’s engineering and manufacturing sector. It brings together practical training, skills development and trusted insight to help engineering businesses build capability, strengthen their teams and plan for the future with confidence.

Built on Scottish Engineering’s 160 years of sector knowledge, the Academy is designed to be relevant, accessible and grounded in real industry need. All activity is tailored specifically to the engineering and manufacturing sector and shaped by the realities of running and working in engineering businesses across Scotland.
The Academy delivers a core programme of in-house, sector-led training built on Scottish Engineering’s expertise and insight. Alongside this, it works in partnership with members, training providers and sector specialists to complement and connect existing training, signposting to trusted expertise and co-creating programmes where sector-specific support is needed.

Supporting both members and non-members, the Academy offers a mix of structured programmes, short courses, and specialist sessions, all informed by our wider Scottish Engineering network. This ensures learning is shaped by evolving policy, workforce data, and the needs of the sector.
For members, the Academy provides access to mentoring support, helping individuals and businesses learn from proven experience within Scotland’s engineering community.

Training is delivered through a flexible mix of live group sessions at Scottish Engineering, delivery at employer locations, online learning (where appropriate) and collaborative sessions across Scotland. This approach ensures training is accessible to businesses and individuals in all Scottish regions, regardless of location or size.

At its core, the Academy helps engineering businesses develop skills, unlock talent and stay competitive, while strengthening the collective voice, capability and resilience of Scotland’s engineering community.
